Kentyn discusses and demonstrates his visualization environment, Channel Light
Kentyn has developed a "visual synthesizer", in which an environment of objects have behavior that constantly evolve according to rules. He has built a flexible visualization framework that can produce a variety of visual effects. For example, the iterations of a rule or visual events can be synchronized with SMPTE time codes and other events in a MIDI "script". Further, the MIDI input can be affected in real-time with a controller, and then recorded for future playback.
Kentyn also discussed various methods of inter-frame growth. Since a single iteration in a system can change the appearance dramatically, this abrupt change of state can be visually disturbing. By using interpolation and smoothing, effects like size, transparency and rotation can be used to make a much more visually appealing animation of change and growth.
Kentyn's tool allows for the exploration of growth patterns in rule-based systems, whether they be NKS-type rules or not.
